4 tips to find the best sofa bed for student accommodation
You’re a student. You’re moving away to study at university. You have a limited space available in your bedroom. Solution? Buy a space saving sofa bed.
It’s something not often considered, but more and more students are choosing to take sofa beds along to university with them, and for good reason. They’re comfortable, compact, and most importantly they reduce the amount of space taken up by an unnecessarily bulky bed. If you’re moving away to study at university then you should consider taking a sofa bed along for the ride, and here are some tips to finding the best one for your needs.
1. Measure your space
It can be quite difficult finding the exact dimensions of your bedroom in your student accommodation before you move, unless you’ve been to visit before committing, but if you can find out you can put this information to fantastic use. Not only can you plan how to use your space to maximum effectiveness ahead of time, but you can also figure out exactly how much space you have for a sofa bed, and whether or not a sofa bed will save you valuable space or whether you might as well opt for a regular bed.
When you’re shopping for a sofa bed, make sure you pay attention to the dimensions of both the sofa folded and unfolded to account for any and all variations. You’ll also want to consider the depth of the mattress.
2. Consider its fold out method
It’s no good taking a sofa bed to save space if you don’t have the necessary space available to unfold it. Each sofa bed has its own method for unfolding; sleeper sofas have cushions that are removed, with a mattress that folds out from within the sofa that’s supported by springs to emulate a good old fashioned bed. Futon style sofa beds are much easier to unfold but not as comfortable; their cushions fold out to form the mattress, but there are no springs for support.
3. Choose a good mattress
For a student, comfort is everything. The long days that eat well into the night, and back into the morning almost every day will cut heavily into your sleeping time; so when you do finally get some down time you’ll want to spend it on a luxury mattress.
You don’t have to stick with the mattress that comes with the sofa bed either. Many sleeper settees come with loose mattresses that can easily be swapped out for something much more comfortable.
