Things you should know about QUILTING FABRICS

Quilting means a process of making quilts, in which two or more layers of a material are sewed together in order to make a thick, padded material, which is called a quilt. Quilts have a number of uses. Quilting is done using a needle and a thread. Two layers of a material are joined and a quilt is made. There are three layers of a quilt typically which are sewed together and made by QUILTING FABRICS The first layer is the quilt top or the top fabric, the second layer is the insulating material and the third one is the backing material. A person who performs the process of quilting be hand is called a quilter. During the making of quilts, the needle is passed through all the three layers and then back to the top layer.

QUILTING FABRICS can be obtained from any quilting store. This fabric is slightly different from other fabrics used in clothing etc. It has a wax coating, and you can’t use it in a sewing machine. It is of higher quality than the other ordinary cotton threads used in routine, and that is why these are more costly as well. Although quilts can be made by the cotton threads as well, you should use QUILTING FABRICS for a better quality and a better life time of the material. If you are making a quilt that is to be used over and over and also washed frequently, you should use the ordinary, less expensive cotton threads. However, for other items that can last for a long time with washing or handling roughly, you can use any fabric material, for instance, when you want to make a wall hanging or an art quilt, because they will stay in their place for a long time and will not get dirty quickly. QUILTING FABRICS are basically cotton but much thicker and of much higher quality. This makes it impossible to use this fabric in sewing machines and is usually in precut form.

To get the QUILTING FABRICS, you have to reach a quilting store and get your desired fabric. Quilting stores provide a number of fabrics in different colors and qualities. For the regular quilters or professional businessmen, these are available in bulk. Buying in bulk is useful as it reduces the price and is much more economic. However, if you are not a professional, you do not need to buy them in bulk. Nowadays, like any other item, QUILTING FABRICS can be purchased online easily through a number of online trading sites. If you have to make a whole cloth quilt, you should buy the desired fabric online which has an extra width of about 60 inches or even more. The fabrics of these widths include back satin, cotton broadcloth or shimmer satin fabric.

Even if you do not need to buy fabric or other stuff online, internet can be very useful for you as a quilter because you can easily find a number of ideas and an unlimited variety of options as well as inspirations through beautiful samples of quilting.

There are two basic categories of quilts, namely whole cloth quilts and pieced quilts. They come in a various different styles. Pieced quilts further include the following kinds.

1-Amish quilts are made using solid color blocks, in which the main color is black. QUILTING FABRIC used here is lightweight wool fabric.

2-Baltimore Albums are made with pure white cotton QUILTING FABRICS (100% cotton). However, shapes of different color are made onto its surface.

3-Crazy quilts are made from materials such as satin, wool, silk, jacquard, velvet, embossed and other high quality QUILTING FABRICS. The pieces in the quilts are each cut irregularly and not in block forms as in other quilts. Embroidery stitches, lace, ribbon and beads are used to decorate these quilts and their beauty represents the skill of a quilter.

4-Quilt blocks include the nine patches, basket of flowers, double rings design, cathedral windows and the log cabin block is used for this purpose. For these quilts, cotton QUILTING FABRICS are used. These can be bought online by choosing your favorite design or you can even design your own quilt.

5-Bargello quilts are decorative quilts used for decorating household furniture and other household items. In addition to these quilts, there are many other types of quilts which use different fabrics, designs and purposes.

There are a variety of QUILTING FABRICS available to you online as well as at quilt stores. On the websites, they will be visible in a list, which makes it easy for you to select one of them. These include cotton print fabrics, animal print fabrics, batik fabrics, children’s cotton fabrics, Christmas fabrics, Damask fabrics, floral print fabrics, organic cotton fabrics etc. These include luxury as well as economical fabrics.
